Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Meets with a 3-Member Delegation from the Asia Internet Coalition
During the meeting, discussions focused on data protection, ethical guidelines for online content, and strategies for preventing electronic crimes.
The Prime Minister stated that the government is taking comprehensive measures to ensure faster and uninterrupted internet services in the country.
He also noted that the implementation of strategies to attract foreign investment in Pakistan’s information technology infrastructure is ongoing.
The government is working on promoting infrastructure based on artificial intelligence, the Prime Minister added.
“We are committed to making Pakistan a leading country in the region regarding artificial intelligence infrastructure,” he emphasized.
Under the Digital Pakistan Initiative, the government is digitizing the entire system, according to the Prime Minister.
The digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will be a significant milestone towards transitioning the economy to digital and automated systems, he mentioned.
Consultations are ongoing with all stakeholders on the draft of the Personal Data Protection Bill, as per the briefing.
The Prime Minister appreciated the Asia Internet Coalition’s efforts in advancing information technology and internet infrastructure in Pakistan and the Asia-Pacific region.
The delegation updated the Prime Minister on the Asia Internet Coalition’s ongoing services in Pakistan’s information technology sector.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecom Shaza Fatima, Tania Aidrus, and relevant senior government officials.
