Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, lauded Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif’s impactful address at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he boldly raised the crucial issues of Kashmir, Palestine, and climate change, reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering support for these long-standing conflicts and global challenges.
In his speech, the Leader of the House in the National Assembly and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the gross human rights violations in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, calling for the international community’s urgent intervention to ensure the right of self-determination for the innocent Kashmiri people, in line with the UN resolutions. He also expressed Pakistan's firm stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, urging the United Nations to play a more active role in facilitating a just and peaceful resolution based on the two-state solution, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a free and sovereign Palestine.
In addition to regional conflicts, the Prime Minister also addressed the global crisis of climate change, which has severely impacted Pakistan in recent years. He urged the international community to adopt and implement commitments toward mitigating climate change and emphasized the need for climate justice. Prime Minister Sharif called for the developed nations to fulfill their pledges to provide financial and technological assistance to developing countries, particularly those like Pakistan, which are disproportionately affected by climate-related disasters despite contributing minimally to global emissions.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq appreciated the Leader of the House and Prime Minister’s strong advocacy. “The inclusion of these topics at such a prominent platform reflects Pakistan's commitment to the principles of justice, human rights, and sustainable development. The Prime Minister’s message was clear: the world must come together to resolve conflicts and confront climate change,” Sadiq remarked.
"The Leader of the House's address was a powerful reminder to the world that the unresolved disputes of Kashmir and Palestine, as well as the global threat posed by climate change, cannot be ignored any longer. These are not only regional issues but humanitarian and environmental crises that require the immediate attention of the global community," said Ayaz Sadiq.
He further added that Pakistan will continue to stand in solidarity with the people of Kashmir and Palestine, advocating for their rights to peace, freedom, and dignity. He also added,"Pakistan will also remain at the forefront of international efforts to combat climate change and seek climate justice.
