Karachi: A powerful explosion near Karachi's airport late Sunday night left 17 people injured, including Rangers and police personnel, and caused significant damage to at least 12 vehicles. The blast, which could be heard as far as Clifton, resulted in confusion with conflicting reports regarding its cause.

Initial investigations by officials suggest that the explosion might have been triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) or due to a collision involving an oil tanker. A heavy contingent of police and Rangers quickly responded to the scene, providing first aid and transporting the injured to a nearby hospital.

Footage from the incident showed several vehicles engulfed in flames as rescue teams worked to control the fire and secure the area. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) has been dispatched to investigate the exact nature of the explosion.

Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident. In a telephonic conversation with Malir SSP, the minister directed that all facts surrounding the explosion be promptly reported. Malir SSP confirmed that police officers and other officials are on the scene, ensuring the area is secure and overseeing the situation.

As rescue operations continue, authorities are working to uncover more details about the blast.
