Meeting Between Chairperson BISP and Population Council Director Focuses on Women's Health and Newborn Care
Senator Rubina Khalid meets Population Council's Dr. Zeba A. Sathar to discuss improving women's health and newborn care through BISP's Benazir Nashonuma initiative.
ISLAMABAD: Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), met with Dr. Zeba A. Sathar, the Country Director of the Population Council, at BISP headquarters today. The two leaders discussed joint initiatives to improve women's reproductive health, promote effective birth control, and ensure the healthy development of newborns, strengthening the cooperation between BISP and the Population Council.
During the meeting, Senator Rubina Khalid emphasized BISP’s Benazir Nashonuma initiative, which aims to combat malnutrition in children by providing nutritious food to pregnant and lactating mothers and their children under the age of two. The program also includes conditional financial support to assist these families. "Maternal health is critical for the healthy birth and development of children," said Senator Rubina Khalid, stressing the need for sustained efforts in this area.
Both parties agreed on the importance of collaborating with top provincial health officials to further improve reproductive health, birth control measures, and newborn care. They also discussed a proposal to set up Population Council desks near Benazir Nashonuma centers to provide women with vital information and guidance on health-related issues.
