Islamabad – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in his message on National Resilience Day, reflected on the tragic earthquake of 2005 and the devastating floods of 2022, emphasizing the resilience and strength demonstrated by the people of Pakistan. The Prime Minister extended his prayers to all those who suffered losses during these calamities and stressed Pakistan’s ongoing battle with climate change-induced disasters.
He acknowledged the hard work of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in creating a robust national response mechanism to handle such emergencies. The Prime Minister commended the advanced capacities of the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) in providing early warnings, which have been critical in saving lives and infrastructure.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged all stakeholders to collaborate, ensuring coordination between local, national, and global actors, both public and private, to strengthen Pakistan's resilience. He emphasized the importance of developing contingency plans, promoting safe infrastructure, adhering to building codes, and implementing sustainable practices, such as efficient water management and afforestation.
In his message, the Prime Minister also thanked the international community, civil society, and private donors for their support during the 2022 floods, and expressed his pride in the generosity of the Pakistani people, who have consistently come together in times of crisis.
The Prime Minister concluded by praying for Allah’s guidance in building a resilient and stronger Pakistan.
