Islamabad – In a joint press conference outside the Parliament House, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar addressed the media, describing today as a historic day for the people of Pakistan.
Azam Nazeer Tarar highlighted the significance of the constitutional amendments under discussion, stating that a special committee was formed by the Speaker of the National Assembly to draft and finalize the proposed amendments. The committee consisted of 19 members, including parliamentary leaders from all political parties. After thorough consultations, the draft was finalized, and the cabinet has been briefed on its key features.
“The constitutional amendments aim to strengthen judicial accountability, establish constitutional benches, and ensure transparency in the judicial process,” said Azam Nazeer Tarar. He also mentioned that discussions were held with key political leaders, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, ensuring that all stakeholders were involved.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar emphasized that the process was conducted with thorough consultations across all political parties. “Today marks a historic moment for the supremacy of the Parliament. We have strived for consensus on these constitutional amendments, which will ensure swift and fair justice,” said Attaullah Tarar.
The ministers also addressed the ongoing deliberations within the cabinet and announced that final decisions would be made by 2:30 PM today. Additionally, the Senate session was scheduled for 3:00 PM, followed by the National Assembly session at 5:00 PM to further discuss and possibly pass the proposed amendments.
The ministers assured the public that the amendments would bring about critical reforms, including setting timelines for judicial review processes and establishing two secretariats to handle constitutional matters more efficiently.
Attaullah Tarar concluded by stating that the constitutional amendment package is a significant step toward ensuring timely justice and upholding democratic values. “No political party has been left out of the consultation process, and this package reflects the collective efforts of all political leaders involved,” he added.
