Islamabad – On the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the tragic October 8, 2005 earthquake, Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, expressed his deep condolences and remembered the devastating impact of the earthquake that shook Pakistan’s northern regions and Azad Kashmir. “The October 8, 2005 earthquake remains one of the most catastrophic events in Pakistan's history, leaving behind a trail of destruction and grief that we still feel today,” said the Speaker.
He emphasized the immense loss of lives and property, stating, “The memory of those we lost in the earthquake remains fresh in our hearts, and we continue to miss their presence.” Speaker Sadiq also highlighted the unparalleled spirit and unity displayed by the entire nation in the aftermath of the disaster. “The way our people came together, showing resilience and solidarity, is unparalleled. As a nation, we need to rekindle that same spirit of unity and compassion in the face of challenges.”
Speaker Sadiq paid tribute to the Pakistani people and the armed forces for their tireless efforts in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation following the earthquake. “Our citizens and military rendered invaluable services to aid the victims and help rebuild communities.” He reiterated his support for the survivors, saying, “On this day, we stand in solidarity with the earthquake victims, remembering the pain of those who were separated from us.”
In his concluding remarks, he prayed for the safety of Pakistan from future calamities, “May Allah protect Pakistan from such unforeseen disasters.”
Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Mir Ghulam Mustafa Shah's Message on the 19th Anniversary of the Earthquake
In a separate message, Deputy Speaker Syed Mir Ghulam Mustafa Shah also expressed his solidarity with the victims of the devastating 2005 earthquake. He remembered the significant loss of lives, homes, and the impact on the nation's economy, saying, “The memory of that horrific disaster is still fresh, and we continue to grieve for those lost.”
Deputy Speaker Shah lauded the courage and resilience displayed by the victims, stating, “Despite losing their loved ones and homes, the victims of the earthquake faced their difficulties with remarkable strength.” He also praised the selfless efforts of the Pakistani nation and the armed forces in helping the earthquake victims, saying, “The solidarity shown by our people was exemplary, and our nation opened its hearts to assist those affected.”
The Deputy Speaker further acknowledged the vital role of welfare organizations and the international community in the rehabilitation efforts, “The contributions made by charitable organizations and other countries were crucial in the recovery process.”
He ended his message with prayers for the victims, “I pray to Allah to elevate the ranks of those who lost their lives in the earthquake and to protect our beloved homeland from all types of disasters.”
