Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan, for a three-day visit to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP-29). Azerbaijan's Minister of Defense Industry, Vugar Valeh Oglu Mustafayev, extended a warm welcome to the Prime Minister at Baku Airport.

Accompanying the Prime Minister are Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.

During his visit, Prime Minister Sharif will attend the COP-29 Climate Action Summit’s opening session and host a Climate Finance Roundtable on behalf of Pakistan. This event will include global leaders and will spotlight the challenges faced by developing countries, particularly Pakistan, which, despite contributing minimally to global emissions, suffers significantly from the adverse effects of climate change.

Moreover, Prime Minister Sharif will attend a high-level event, “Glaciers 2025: Actions for Glaciers,” organized by the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, aiming to protect glacial regions. The Prime Minister will also hold separate meetings with the Prime Ministers of Denmark and the Czech Republic, discussing climate threats faced by Pakistan and avenues for mutual cooperation.

Today’s schedule also includes the inaugural family photo session with world leaders, as well as several sideline meetings with notable leaders, including UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. During these interactions, the Prime Minister will advocate for climate resilience efforts and explore bilateral cooperation.

The proceedings, including the Prime Minister’s speech and the family photo session, will be broadcast live on Pakistan Television.
