Senator Kamran Murtaza Urges Clarity from PTI on Religious Seminaries Legislation
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Senator Kamran Murtaza held a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Speaker of the National Assembly, Asad Qaiser, to discuss issues surrounding the Societies Registration Amendment Bill and potential cooperation on political issues.
During the meeting, Senator Kamran Murtaza sought PTI’s support in drafting legislation for religious seminaries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), emphasizing the need for the KP Assembly to legislate on religious madrassas as well. The senator pointed out that the bill passed by the Center would only apply to Islamabad and required the provincial assemblies, including those of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to create their own legislation.
Senator Murtaza further stated that JUI-F would also engage with political leadership in Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan to push for similar legislative actions. He stressed that PTI must clarify its stance on the issue, as conflicting statements from PTI leaders had created confusion regarding JUI-F and madrassas.
“PTI should first decide through internal consultations whether it wants to cooperate with us or not,” Kamran Murtaza remarked. He suggested that PTI come up with a unified approach before proceeding with the matter.
Asad Qaiser, on his part, expressed the need for clarity on how PTI could assist JUI-F in addressing the challenges faced by madrassas. He indicated willingness to discuss the matter further within PTI to explore potential collaboration.
The meeting also covered broader political issues, with the possibility of coordination between JUI-F and PTI on other legislative and political matters.
