Despite claims by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah that sit-ins had been cleared from eight areas of Karachi, protests have resumed in multiple locations, causing widespread disruption across the city.

Protest Updates

The protests, led by Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), continue at key locations, including Kamran Chowrangi, where police efforts to disperse demonstrators proved unsuccessful. Protesters at the site remain steadfast, clashing with authorities and disrupting traffic flow.

Demonstrations have also re-emerged at:

  • Shahrah-e-Pakistan in Ancholi.
  • Nazimabad to Lasbela Road.
  • Abbas Town, where protesters have set tires ablaze in defiance.

Key Protest Sites

The major protest points in Karachi include:

  • MA Jinnah Road (Numaish Chowrangi).
  • Kamran Chowrangi.
  • Johar Mor.
  • Abul Hassan Isfahani Road.
  • Five Star Chowrangi.
  • University Road.
  • Shamsuddin Azimi Road.
  • Ancholi.
  • Nazimabad No. 1.
  • Ayesha Manzil Chowrangi.

Road closures have been implemented, with traffic restricted to one track in some areas. Citizens are advised to avoid these locations and use alternate routes as provided by the Karachi Traffic Police.

Traffic Disruption

Protests have severely affected the daily lives of Karachi residents, particularly along Shahrah-e-Pakistan, which has been completely closed from Water Pump to Sohrab Goth for three days. Congestion and delays persist despite alternate route arrangements.

Police Response

Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho issued a stern warning to protesters, stating:

  • "Paralyzing the city's system in the name of protest is unacceptable."
  • "Anyone obstructing roads or resisting government authority will face consequences."

Odho emphasized restoring normalcy, ensuring roads are cleared, and providing relief to the city's citizens. However, he assured that police actions would focus on maintaining public order while respecting citizens' rights.

Police Clarification

In a statement, the Karachi Police spokesperson clarified the Police Chief’s remarks, highlighting that:

  • The Chief’s intention was not to terminate the sit-ins but to ensure protests do not disrupt public life.
  • The statement aimed at balancing the right to protest with maintaining smooth traffic flow.
