The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Headquarters welcomed a delegation of Probationary Officers from the 52nd Common Training Programme, offering them an in-depth understanding of BISP's mission and initiatives aimed at empowering vulnerable communities and fostering socio-economic development.
Addressing the officers, BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid congratulated them on their achievements and highlighted their vital role in shaping Pakistan's future. She encouraged the officers to act as ambassadors for BISP, enhancing its image and contributing to national progress.
Senator Khalid announced an immediate increase in the Kafaalat quarterly stipend from Rs. 10,500 to Rs. 13,500. She traced BISP's origins to the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, formulated during her exile in Dubai. "Through BISP, the poor women of Pakistan have gained recognition, identity, and dignity—a credit that goes to President Asif Ali Zardari," she remarked.
She emphasized the program's efforts in empowering women through biometric verification for payment disbursements, ensuring transparency and dignity. She also highlighted skill training programs, stating, "There is a global demand for skilled labor, and with available resources, we simply need to connect the dots."
Earlier, Secretary BISP Amer Ali Ahmad provided a comprehensive briefing on BISP's key initiatives, including:
- Benazir Kafaalat
- Benazir Nashonuma
- Benazir Taleemi Wazaif
- BISP NSER Database
He also detailed the Nutrition Program for Adolescent Girls and the use of Mobile Registration Vehicles for facilitating program enrollment in remote regions.
Secretary Ahmad elaborated on the new payment system, which now engages six banks across 15 clusters to ensure transparency. He shared that the State Bank of Pakistan is collaborating with BISP to enable beneficiaries to choose their preferred bank for payments. Additionally, he announced the launch of the BISP Savings Scheme and a Call Center to promote savings and address beneficiary complaints effectively.
Dr. Muhammad Tahir Noor, Additional Secretary BISP, highlighted the program's robust targeting mechanisms and swift response during emergencies like COVID-19 and floods, ensuring timely aid to affected communities.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, during which Senator Khalid and Secretary Ahmad addressed participants' queries. Shields were presented to Senator Rubina Khalid, Amer Ali Ahmad, and Dr. Tahir Noor on behalf of the Civil Services Academy, with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Shehar Bano.
