Islamabad, Pakistan – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has confirmed that several of its officers were involved in human trafficking linked to the recent Greece boat tragedy, leading to the expulsion of 18 officials and the initiation of departmental action.

According to the FIA, the boat tragedy, which resulted in the loss of several lives, included victims from Narowal and Sialkot, with the victims identified as Shabbir, Zain, Zeeshan, and Owais. The FIA confirmed the recovery of four more bodies, bringing the total death toll to nine. The identification of the bodies is being carried out through DNA testing, and efforts are underway to repatriate the bodies to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the FIA has expelled a total of 18 officers and officials involved in the incident. This includes a sub-inspector, three ASIs, 11 head constables, and three constables. Additionally, the Additional Director (Immigration) of Sialkot Airport, Ali Zaidi, has been transferred. The implicated officers were posted in various districts, including Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Sialkot.

A notification regarding their transfers has already been issued. Kartarpur DD Muhammad Nauman has been given additional responsibilities for overseeing Sialkot airport operations.

In a significant development, the FIA officers and officials summoned for investigation have reached the agency headquarters, where they are expected to present their position before the Director-General (DG). Reportedly, 38 officers and officials appeared before the DG, who is personally investigating the matter. If found guilty of involvement in human trafficking, further action will be taken against them.

Human trafficking continues to be a significant concern in the region, with thousands of Pakistanis attempting illegal migration to Europe, with tragic results. The FIA's swift action against its own officials aims to send a strong message against human trafficking and bring justice to the victims and their families.
