ISLAMABAD – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Soars Back to Europe
Pakistan's Aviation Minister, Khawaja Asif, announced the resumption of PIA flights to Europe after a prolonged hiatus of 4.5 years. Addressing a gathering at Islamabad International Airport, he expressed heartfelt gratitude and described this achievement as a significant milestone.
"I cannot thank Allah enough for this moment of national pride. The green crescent flag will once again fly across European skies, reinstating our lost identity," said Asif.
Expanding Horizons: Europe to the US
PIA plans to expand its flight operations across Europe and collaborate with partner airlines for seamless access to US destinations, including transit stops in Paris and beyond. Asif further revealed plans to reinstate flights on three British routes in the near future.
He credited Khawaja Saad Rafique and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their dedication, which played a pivotal role in lifting the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) ban on PIA.
Acknowledgements and Future Plans
The aviation minister commended the European Union authorities for their cooperation, as well as the officials who worked tirelessly to restore PIA’s operations. Highlighting future developments, he shared plans to add new aircraft to PIA’s fleet and restore the airline’s global competitiveness.
"The outgoing flight to France was fully booked, and we expect the same enthusiasm in upcoming flights," said Asif.a
Privtisation for Efficiency
Asif reaffirmed the government's commitment to privatising PIA, ensuring operational efficiency and market competitiveness. He expressed optimism about turning PIA into a profitable entity.
"It won't take long for us to privatise PIA and secure its future," he assured.
Overseas Pakistanis to Benefit
PIA’s resumption is expected to ease travel for thousands of Pakistanis residing in Europe. The minister also announced that PIA would continue providing free transportation of deceased Pakistanis from Europe to their homeland.
Accountability and Commitment
Khawaja Asif called for accountability against individuals responsible for PIA's past setbacks and controversies. He reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring the airline’s lost prestige.
"PIA’s growth is a top priority. Together, we will bring our national carrier back to its glory days," he concluded.
