The meeting brought together key political and military leaders to address pressing security challenges.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of a unified approach, stating, “Promoting a positive national narrative is essential to deal with the country's problems.” The Army Chief, General Asim Munir, reiterated the military's unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property while intensifying efforts against terrorism.
Reviving NACTA
The committee discussed the reactivation of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and the establishment of provincial and national intelligence fusion centers. Regional diplomacy was highlighted as a critical tool to combat cross-border terrorism effectively.
The forum resolved: “All stakeholders must play their role to get rid of terrorism.”
Global and Domestic Commitments
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation as Pakistan assumed its two-year tenure as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). He attributed this milestone to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar’s efforts.
Addressing domestic security, PM Sharif instructed the interior minister to work with provincial governments to develop integrated security strategies. He also warned against the presence of terrorists and anti-Pakistan conspiracies brewing in Balochistan, calling for immediate action.
“It is time to completely wipe out the terrorists,” he declared, emphasizing federal-provincial collaboration.
Combating Digital Propaganda
The Apex Committee also resolved to counter digital propaganda and misinformation campaigns targeting Pakistan. PM Shehbaz Sharif underscored the need to curb fake news, which he described as a “venomous attack” against national interests.
He warned, “If this is not countered, all our efforts will go in vain.”
Support for Security Forces
The forum acknowledged the sacrifices of law enforcement agencies and reviewed measures for protecting foreign nationals in Pakistan. PM Shehbaz Sharif condemned misinformation campaigns against security forces, urging the youth to value the sacrifices of the nation’s defenders.
A Call for Unity
In conclusion, the committee emphasized that federal and provincial governments, along with all institutions, must move forward together to ensure national security. PM Shehbaz Sharif reiterated, “Pakistan’s security remains the government’s top priority.”
