Islamabad – The Toshakhana 2 case against PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi has been adjourned until February 17 after a jail trial was held at Adiala Jail on Monday.

During the hearing, statements from eight witnesses were recorded, with seven of them cross-examined. The cross-examination of the eighth witness remains incomplete and will continue in the next hearing.

Lawyer Requests Open Trial

Imran Khan's lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, filed a request for an open trial, arguing that the prison trial lacks transparency. He claimed that lawyers were being granted access selectively and that the general public was not allowed to witness the proceedings.

“This trial is being conducted in a controlled environment by the jail authorities. Lawyers are given entry at will, while ordinary people are not given access,” Chaudhry stated.

He further urged the court to pause proceedings until a decision on the open trial request is made. In response, the court issued notices to the relevant parties.

Legal Controversies Surrounding the Case

The Adiala Jail superintendent also filed a response to a petition by lawyer Mashal Yousafzai. According to the jail administration, Yousafzai’s legal license had been suspended by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, and an inquiry was underway regarding how a power of attorney was issued in her name despite the suspension.

The next hearing of the case is set for February 17, when the court is expected to continue proceedings on both the trial and the pending open trial request.
