ISLAMABAD – A terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express near Dhadar, Balochistan, on Tuesday led to a deadly hostage situation, resulting in the tragic loss of three minors and the train's driver.
Terrorists Halt Train in Bolan Pass Tunnel, 400 Passengers Held Hostage
The passenger train, which was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar via Sibi, was intercepted by heavily armed attackers, placing hundreds of civilians, including women and children, in grave danger. The terrorists halted the train inside a tunnel in the Bolan Pass area, taking approximately 400 passengers hostage.
Security forces swiftly cordoned off the area and launched a clearance operation. Despite challenging terrain and remote location, a successful rescue operation resulted in the safe evacuation of 80 hostages, including:
- 43 men
- 26 women
- 11 children
Efforts remain underway to rescue the remaining passengers.
Security Forces Kill Four Terrorists, Last Attacker Neutralized
Amid intense resistance, four terrorists were gunned down during the operation. The last remaining attacker was eliminated as security personnel continued their advance.
Security forces faced extreme challenges, as terrorists used women and children as human shields. However, the troops executed a strategic operation to regain control of the situation.
Ambulances Dispatched, Rescue Operations Face Challenges
Multiple ambulances were rushed to the affected area, but difficult terrain made reaching the victims a major challenge. Emergency vehicles returning to Sibi indicated delays in transporting the injured and deceased.
At the time of reporting, no injured or deceased individuals had been shifted to hospitals in Mach, Dhadar, or Sibi.
Intelligence Reports Link Attackers to Foreign Handlers
Security sources revealed that:
- The attackers were in direct communication with handlers in Afghanistan.
- Indian and anti-national social media accounts were actively spreading disinformation about the attack.
Indian media was accused of amplifying propaganda through:
- AI-generated videos
- Old footage
- Misleading WhatsApp messages
Terrorist-linked social media accounts were reportedly coordinating with Indian outlets to push an anti-Pakistan narrative.
Counter-Terrorism Operations Will Continue Until Last Terrorist Eliminated
Security forces have vowed to continue counter-terrorism operations until every last terrorist is neutralized. Authorities have urged the public to rely on credible sources for information rather than falling prey to false narratives circulating online.
Emergency Declared in Balochistan Hospitals
Authorities declared an emergency in Civil Hospital Sibi and Dhadar, mobilizing medical teams to handle potential casualties. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Railways Department dispatched a relief train to assist the affected passengers.
Balochistan Govt's Response
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that:
- The attack occurred in a remote, hilly area, making security operations challenging.
- Emergency measures have been imposed, with all institutions mobilized.
- The government has urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
