In a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday, a detailed review of the privatization process of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was conducted.

During the briefing, the Prime Minister was informed about the auction mechanism, required timelines, and eligibility criteria for potential investors. He directed that transparency must be given utmost priority throughout the PIA privatization process.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the privatization of PIA should be completed within the proposed timeframe. He further instructed that comprehensive roadshows be conducted and potential investors be fully taken on board to ensure a successful privatization process.

He reiterated that transparency should remain the cornerstone of the privatization procedure, not just for PIA but for all future state-owned enterprise divestments. In a bold move to uphold public confidence, the Prime Minister directed that the privatization process be broadcast live on national television and digital platforms.

Officials also briefed the Prime Minister that a robust investor outreach strategy has been developed in collaboration with a consultancy firm and is being implemented effectively.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Attaullah Tarar, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Advisors Muhammad Ali and Syed Tauqir Shah, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, National Coordinator of Special Investment Facilitation Council Lt. Gen. Sarfraz Ahmed, and other senior officials.
